So Girls all I can say is that instead of blogging I have been sewing. Not a good excuse but I even have Ross's quilt as a top too. Have been trying to stay off the computer a little, because time flies while you are on it and the things that you wanted to get done don't get done.
The pineapple quilt is pieced on the back too.
Happy Quilting :-)
I know I have been quiet on the blog but I have been sewing. I love the movement in this quilt and it is happy. Perfect for a little girls cot quilt. At the moment baby Zara is only 9 weeks old. Plenty of time to have this quilt finished in time for winter.
Pie in the Sky is a top too. It is in two pieces as I will quilt them separately and join to become the Queen size quilt that it needs to be.
Rob’s Christmas/Birthday present. Isn’t it gorgeous. Love the painted Roses on the bed. Would you believe he acquired the Manual over 10 years ago and now he finally has the machine that goes with the manual!
Gardner Sewing Machine Company was established in Hamilton, Ontario Canada in 1871 and went out of business in 1886.
This machine is called the Improved Gardner and is their first model.
Thankyou Meredithe. It has been very hot here and so I decided to escape to my sewing room and have a play. The pinwheels will have little hexagons in their centres. I need a baby quilt hence the change in colours to my normal repros.

I have to say I love these templates. They are so easy to use and are I used my Roller blade. I think my Pinwheels will have another personality with little hexagons in their centres.

The Pie in the sky quilt is progressing nicely. Am putting blocks in groups of four before I group them as a big Quilt.
Enjoy yourselves and all that wonderful family time.
I know my machine will not be turned on for a while now as Family Time takes over. I had my day of Fun though
I also have now nearly made all the blocks for the Queen size Pie in the sky quilt I talked about in September 23 post. Some are still in units and two thirds still need to be sashed but it is starting to take real shape. I am happy.

I am also just loving my new Bernina 820. She is purring like a pussy cat. I can even set my block up underneath the arm ready to sew. All that room is fantastic.

Cheers Lynne
PatchworkRosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13256614252373558172noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4940340025344810464.post-58370655261937549532012-11-12T21:12:00.001+10:302012-11-12T21:13:16.754+10:30Block 17 Nearly Insane
This block took me a while. Notice the Rooster and hen in the centre block.
I can finally say it is finished. Plan on putting it into the row later. I am happy The little kitties just fit.
Next blocks to complete are 47 35 and 17. The last two are complex and I just noticed I have not made 18 which is in the next row. That is a bit of a doozy. I am well on the way to finishing all the blocks though.
My sewing machine has been crying from lack of use.
Took 2 photos and the colours are still not quite right. The outer red is a stronger red than shows. I do like the way all the colours interact with each other. Not quite complimenting each other but happy all the same. I think that with this block the fabrics were harder to choose than doing the block itself. I will add it to the row. Choose the colours for the dreaded block 22 and give myself time on the Pie in the Sky quilt for a little while. B 22 is the last block I need to do to complete the row. Have a great Weekend all Cheers Lynne
Have not sewn the row on as I still have the other 2 blocks to make. Have chosen fabrics for B28 and started it. That was a hard one to chhose the colour for. Usually I choose without using any of the other blocks as an influence but I thought that I would like a strong block for 28 so stay tune.
My photos can be enlarged for close ups.
It is a long weekend here and we are enjoying a little bit of sun. little bit of rain and a little bit of sewing. :-)
Enjoy Cheers Lynne
Block is finished :-) I am happy One more block in this row before I am forced to tackle B22. The one I have been avoiding forever! One of my most favourite fabrics is the Sturbridge Apricot. Wish they made more repro apricots. I have less than a F8 left of this one and lets just say I will be very sad when it is gone.
I have unearthed my Nearly Insane and as I am now putting the rows together and need to fill in gaps Block 34 is next on the list. As we have had some glorious Spring days I decided that the centre needs to be a buzzy bee. This is a fairly simple block so I have no excuse not to finish it!

Here are some of the Pie in the Sky Blocks pieced with their sashing as I go along. Decided to stitch them together in units of 4. I probably have 1/3 of the blocks made for a Queen Size quilt and plan on using the pieces as leaders and enders as I progress to the next quilt for the week. Must confess I just so loved making these blocks that the intention of rotating quilts once a week stretch to 3 weeks on this one! I do have lots of fabrics cut so I can work on this side by side with Rowan’s Quilt. Hopefully will have pictures to take of that one soon. The quilt will have a totally different flavour as the two brothers are so totally different.
Photo will enlarge for closeup to see all the conversationals.
This is my 12 days of Christmas quilt. I actually made two. One for me and one for a friend. She has hers and I was dragging my heels finishing off mine. Except for the borders hers is the same as mine. I just did not have enough fabric to make the same borders too. There are a few conversationals in there. Sandcastles and shells to signify where I live. Little birds cause I love bird fabric Bees and a bee hive, Roses because I love them and my friend Nancys favourite colour is blue so lots of that and her favourite fabric the apricot Sturbridge in the nine patch. That is now becoming a precious fabric as there is very little left.

Have a look at the gorgeous quilt that Taryn is giving away. It s the most gorgeous Dolls Quilt. I love it. I would be proud to be an owner of this little cutie :-)
I had not done machine buttonhole for about 5 years and discovered that it is like riding a bike – something that you never forget. I thoroughly enjoyed making this quilt. The buttonhole is very fine and I used matching cotton threads. I am waiting on delivery of the backing fabric to machine quilt. The sashings do not match as I thought that the fabric was so busy that it did not really matter.

Currently I am working on Pie in the Sky a Kim Diehl Quilt. No 2 son needs a new quilt for his bed. The pattern is a star in a shoofly and is fun to make. When I have made a few more I will take some photos. I also need to make a quilt for No 1 son. Have the fabric and am making a combination pattern. A bit from here and a bit from there. Not started yet but I am going to try doing a bit of project a week with every week a different one. Could come unstuck but it is worth a try. I have not given up on the Nearly Insane and that is one of the weekly projects.

Stay Tune Cheers Lynne

LiveJournal Tags: Morris Meadows
PatchworkRosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13256614252373558172noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4940340025344810464.post-11611385502440754592012-08-26T19:43:00.001+09:302012-08-26T19:47:25.397+09:30Ideal Travelling MachineSorry my blog has been quiet for so long. We are well however life in general took over for a bit. A long Bit. I am still sewing quite a bit and the pastels have taken a back seat for a while as I only have time for one or the other and my sewing machine wins hands down!
The Ideal was designed by Leslie Slater around 1910 but it was not until 1921 that they actually started to produce these machines. It was designed as a lightweight transportable chain stitch machine. However they were not a success and the company had failed by 1922. Do not know where they were manufactured but many were as there are quite a few survivors. However the quality of the nickel plating was poor and many of them are not in Ideal condition.
Have you ever had this calling that you have put on hold. I have an absolute passion for pastels. I started collecting them back in 2002 for that one day when I would have time for both my passions. Quilting and sewing are my first love but I am learning or should I say exploring pastels. I went to an exhibition of someones work and fell in love with pastels all over again. Workshops were offered in the school holidays and let us just say that the temptation was too great.
These pictures are not finished yet. Nearly but not quite. I am a little scared at putting in the final touches til I have explored a little more. As it is I have discovered that the outside look of the pastel is not necessarily the inside look. This is a person who has not done art really so I do not know any principals. I just go by my Gut instinct. I love the feel and texture of pastels but I have not rubbed any in as I prefer to lay colour over the top. I have discovered that I can draw standing up using an easel and I like that too. I love getting my hands dirty.
This was done on a Navy pastel paper. The photos were taken in our gorgeous Amazon Lily Pavilion in the Botanical Gardens in Adelaide. This is not an Amazon Lily though. My leaves just need a little tweaking. I am now going to an art class a week. Just to play. Who knows where it will take me.
Meanwhile I am still working slowly on that Nearly Insane. Made 2 corner blocks and did not like the green I used so they are going down the bottom and I have used a different green for the top. I have even prepared one of the LeMoyne stars!! Mind you that is going to be the only one I do.
Promise I will not leave it quite so long to post next time. Cheers LynnePatchworkRosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13256614252373558172noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4940340025344810464.post-91864747344056559102011-10-09T21:52:00.002+10:302011-10-09T21:53:28.539+10:30Block97
No Sewing this weekend but I did manage to finish this one on Monday. Just the way it happens sometimes. This block is a little darker but it is a top block. Block 98. I couldnt put the first row together as I had not made B98. Made only one side as I just had to see what was going to happen when I added the sashing and cornerstones.
LOOK :-)

Ok so I have not made the top LH corner block or finished the second row as I need B96 but what do you think?? I like it. I like the colour graduation and the fabric is a little more golden than in the photo. The photo will enlarge
Here is a close up. Sure wish I had a wall to pin it on. I still have to make block 22 and I had been avoiding that one. I know the blue stands out in my sea block but there will be enough blue in the rest of the quilt to compliment. Long weekend Monday tomorrow and the weather is magic. Enjoy yourselves where ever you are in the world. Cheers LynnePatchworkRosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13256614252373558172noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4940340025344810464.post-40620720076164963682011-09-28T21:25:00.002+09:302011-09-28T21:29:31.272+09:30B8 Another Maltaville block
I now have 5 blocks finished and 5 more on the go. I feel like I am getting somewhere. The gorgeous green in this block was thankyou to Christine and a scrapbag I won on her blog. It is perfect and just gorgeous. I finished The bird block too.

Happy now. I even put a little yellow beak on my bird. A friend suggested that I try back basteing on the sewing machine for my applique. I must admit that I was hesitant but after trying I love it. I can see the hole guides so much easier and it is also easier to needle turn under.
Hope you are all enjoying your projects.
I have been busy making Maltaville blocks. A few girls in our quilting group had a wonderful weekend away and I decided I would like to work on my applique. I have quite a few of the other blocks started and some are all but finished. I know I am doing the Civil War Bride quilt but it nice to work on these bigger pieces. Love seeing the nice big pieces of colour and the texture of the fabric too. The last block is not quite finished. It needs a little piece on the bottom. The bluebird was a little tricky and it has a little tiny yellow beak. I am enjoying making these blocks. I even hand quilted this one too. This quilt was finished quite a few years ago and has been up on the wall.
Maybe Salinda was having a bad hair day :-)
Feeling a little better as I see that Tazzie interpreted the block the same too. Maybe I should just leave it as a quirk.
Love that Dargate Indigo in the centre and decided to go for Green and Gold as an Aussie symbol. Pink is there as there are small pink flowers in the indigo. Besides I just happened to like that pink.
Finally finished all 120 units of 4 Flying geese! Loved doing them but I was sure glad to finish.
I can now concentrate on Nearly Insane and Maltaville. Have a Great Week All Cheers LynnePatchworkRosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13256614252373558172noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4940340025344810464.post-8247909017705006412011-07-10T21:18:00.001+09:302011-07-10T21:21:09.624+09:30Geese for My Blind Man’s Fancy Swap
Enlarge the photo and see if you can find sandcastles, bees, butterflies, the chicken and the egg and cotton reels and I know the girls have a sewing machine on theirs and Gum leaves. Another that is partway finished has wattle. The fabrics are mainly repro but I wanted to put a little of me in. The sandcastles because I live near the beach. The wattle and gum leaves for Australia. One of the friends I am swapping with lives in America. She will know my geese :-)

I have been busy making Flying Geese units for a swap between 2 friends. There is lots of colour and texture in my geese.

I have made 3 times this many geese and there are two other sets the same for my two friends.

I still have 11 sets of 3 or 33 sets of 4 geese to go. I am having fun making them but they seem to be taking forever. Have been making them for quite a while now. Stealing spare moments of time to sneak out and sew just another lot.

They are all paper pieced. They are trimmed but the papers are still waiting to be removed.

I know I am behind on the Barbara Brackman CW blocks and the Nearly Insane blocks but I want to finally finish these geese.

Hope you All had a great weekend Cheers Lynne
PatchworkRosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13256614252373558172noreply@blogger.com13
